Billie Eilish wears Irish designer Simone Rocha at Met Gala 2023

Irish fashion received significant exposure when Grammy winner Billie Eilish wore Simone Rocha to the Met Gala last night.

The Met Gala, a yearly spectacle that features the world’s most renowned faces wearing their most costly ensembles, maybe the most significant night on the fashion calendar. Event chair and Vogue editor Anna Wintour personally invites all of the attendees.

Actors, singers, musicians, and models work the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for the star-studded event, putting on show-stopping outfits and earning money for The Costume Institute.

Designers took inspiration from the legendary designer and his works throughout the years for the evening’s theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.

Billie Eilish, an Oscar-winning singer-songwriter and producer, received a unique outfit from Irish designer and NCAD alumnus Simone Rocha. Rocha drew influence from Eilish’s gothic fashion preferences and combined it with her love of Victorian-era materials and forms.

Eilish, attending the prestigious event for the third time, chose a black translucent gown with a flowery halterneck, corset, garter-inspired tights, and ribbon trimming. Her hair was braided, and the outfit was completed with matching transparent thigh-high stockings, long gloves, and towering black platform shoes.

After completing her undergraduate studies at NCAD, Simone Rocha, the daughter of fashion designer John Rocha, she received training at Central Saint Martins in London. She debuted her graduating collection in 2010 during London Fashion Week and the Tate Modern.

She doesn’t manufacture anything specifically for me, so I was like, “Please,” bats eyes. On the red carpet, Eilish spoke to Vogue about Simone Rocha. “It’s always an honor to be asked [to the Met Gala]. I’m having a blast. I’ll admit that I have beautiful tales to tell after going there.

She debuted in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired gown for the In America: A Lexicon of Fashion theme in 2021 when she was the event’s youngest co-chair.

Over 150 original looks created by Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019 at 85, were featured in the exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which explored his illustrious seven-decade career. Many of his original sketches will be displayed along with the items on display.

Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, and Jared Leto dressed as Lagerfeld’s renowned white cat Choupette for yesterday night’s event, inspiring other ensembles from the night.
