The voice behind Commander Zavala unfortunately recently passed away.
Despite the loss of Lance Reddick, Bungie has promised that his “performances still to come” will live on in Destiny 2.
The news of Reddick’s death last week shocked fans of his roles in The Wire, John Wick, Fringe, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon video games, and Destiny, where he played Commander Zavala, one of the most important characters.
The games offered via a live service are always evolving, with new content being added often.
Bungie just published a blog post honoring Reddick and noting that more of his appearances in Destiny 2 is still to come.
The blog post says that Lance “gave voice to a character who has become almost synonymous with Destiny itself” as Commander Zavala, the unstoppable leader of the Vanguard.
For over a decade, Guardians everywhere have found solace and direction in Zavala’s company, strengthened by that unmistakable voice, so full of power, serenity, and dignity.
Lance was adored by many for the intensity he brought to his roles as an actor, musician, gamer, and family guy.
We will always remember him and honor his legacy through the games we play and the memories we share.
Our hearts go out to his family and friends; we mourn his death but are grateful for the time we had.
When players heard that Reddick had died, many of them went to where Zavala lived to pay their respects.
Reddick was not just a well-liked NPC but also a dedicated gamer who often interacted with fans in lighthearted and even goofy ways, such as by reading fanfiction while maintaining his character.
On April 19, 2019, the Burning Shores expansion for Horizon: Forbidden West will be released, and with it, Reddick’s last performance is Sylens.
