Sam Hartman appeared destined to become Notre Dame’s starting quarterback as soon as he stepped into the transfer portal in December of last year.
But the way things operate is funny. Hartman has been the favorite to lead the Fighting Irish against the Navy.
since he committed to Notre Dame in late August, but he has yet to be that much better than Tyler Buchner to warrant an announcement.
Is it reasonable for Notre Dame supporters to hope the competition continues until fall camp after Marcus Freeman mentioned it? Or should they fervently hope that one easily defeats the opposition?
I won’t lie; when I hear about a quarterback issue, I immediately think of previous ones for Notre Dame that resulted in miserable seasons.
The year 2016 instantly comes to mind when considering a quarterback controversy.
You can’t make me believe that the awful 4-8 season wasn’t significantly impacted by uncertainty at QB-1 heading into the season opener at Texas.
